|

Hello,
I am thinking of installing LabView on my linux system (a Fedora 11), and I was wondering if there were the necessary drivers to operate the NIMBOX under linux ?
Did someone already try using the nimbox under linux and labview for linux ?
Thanks,

Dear Azzarel,
porting NIMbox under Linux requires two steps:
1) the NIMbox USB chip Cypress FX2 must be recognized when you plug the NIMbox into the USB port.
2) the library DL700_FX2.dll must be ported and recompiled under Linux
Please let me know if you can find a Cypress FX2 module in the Linux community that allows you to see the NIMbox on your system. After this step, we can try to recompile the library.
Yours,
Sergio |

Dear Sergio,
Thanks for your reply.
I visited the cypress web site, and found following links:
http://www.cypress.com/?rID=29746
http://www.cypress.com/?rID=12915
To summarize, support for Cypress FX2 under linux is limited, no driver exist. On the other hand, it is also mentioned that to get a communication with their USB chip it is not necessary to have a specific driver.
But I have to admit that I am not at all an usb communication expert and do not know what are the implications.
Nevertheless it looks like that with a bit of work it should be possible to have the nimbox working under linux.
Cheers,
